Description:
The Australian Standard Research Classification (ASRC) is the collective name for a set of three related classifications designed for use in the measurement and analysis of research and experimental development (R&D) undertaken in Australia. They are: Type of Activity (TOA); Research Fields, Courses and Disciplines (RFCD); and Socio-economic Objective (SEO). The classifications are used in conjunction with industrial and institutional sector classifications to produce a set of official statistics which support a variety of user interests.

The TOA provides four types of activity related to research which can be a way of subdividing research projects in a database (4 terms); the RFCD is a hierarchical way of classifying research by academic disciplines, major sub-fields and emerging fields of study (1000+ terms); the SEO classifies research hierarchically by it's perceived purpose (750 terms). Concordances within the collection compare some of these classifications with others and with previous versions of the same classification.
